How about $950 million in taxpayer funds? These funds were issued by the US Department of Energy to refurbish 11 coal plants (most of these plants were closed or closing due to age).

Add $860 million because grid operators were forced to issue operational orders to run these plants at higher-than-market costs.

Over $1 billion wasted on technology and pollution from power plants that are not economically or environmentally competitive.
