History was made when Berkeley, CA banned natural gas systems in new buildings. Now multiple cities cross-country are following suit. The strategy is to move towards a greener energy solution through the electric grid. Reversing Emissions-Reducing Lightbulb Energy Efficiency Standards
President George W. Bush’s administration implemented energy standards to phase out high energy usage light bulbs. Obama’s administration was set to finalize that legislation in January 2020 to include specialty bulbs becoming more energy efficient. Trump’s administration wants to undo these regulations. Not only would this encourage consumers to spend more money on bulbs with lower life expectancies, it would increase their bills due to less energy efficient products and increase carbon dioxide emissions. If regulations are reversed, they will be challenged.

Working gas in storage was 2,941 Bcf as of Friday, August 30, 2019, according to EIA estimates.
This represents a net increase of 84 Bcf from the previous week. Stocks were 383 Bcf higher than last year at this time and 82 Bcf below the five-year average of 3,023 Bcf. At 2,941 Bcf, total working gas is within the five-year historical range.
Turning The World’s Waste Problems Into Energy Solutions
Solar, wind, and water are the most commonly known green energies used across the world. However, with the amount of waste produced each day, engineers are constantly looking to create positive use out of our trash through waste-to-energy (WTE). Many countries including the US have been using WTEs for some time but, some have a much higher production rate which creates many issues. Working gas in storage was 2,857 Bcf as of Friday, August 23, 2019, according to EIA estimates. This represents a net increase of 60 Bcf from the previous week.
Stocks were 363 Bcf higher than last year at this time and 100 Bcf below the five-year average of 2,957 Bcf. At 2,857 Bcf, total working gas is within the five-year historical range.
After months of contentious debate, Ohio nuclear bailout bill becomes law
The State of Ohio passed a bill to pay a nuclear power plant $150 million/year to keep operating. It was immediately signed by the Governor.
Yes, you read that right.
A new tax, $0.85/month on all residential customers from 2021 – 2027 is expected to generate $170 million/year.
In addition, this new law will drop the renewable requirements for utilities from 12.5% to 8.5% by 2026. But, after 2026 there is no further requirement. Yep- back to free markets.
This action is in sharp contrast to surrounding states that increased the renewable requirements for energy delivered to their residents.
Ohio chose to bail out a failing power plant at the expense of its future in renewable power.

A cyber-attack just disrupted grid operations in the U.S. But it could have been far worse.

A “disruption” or hack of the US grid occurred and was attributed to a basic web hack; bombarding a website with clicks. Unlike overseas, this disruption did not cause anyone to lose power… yet. Everyday the US consumes several trillion dollars worth of electricity. Any disruption would be consequential.
The federal government must stay engaged in maintaining world standards of business conduct . Utilities can and do take steps to safeguard the grid. However, unlike concluding a foreign government attempted to influence our elections, a foreign government causing a power outage would undoubtedly be an act of war.
