PUCO hopes to ease billing accessibility, improve energy efficiency, inform customers about investments in renewable energy, and more. However, the plan is not without obstacles and the PowerForward roadmap will need to review those difficulties each step of the way.

Make sure to sign up for the National Do Not Call (DNC) registry at https://www.donotcall.gov/. It can take some time for this list to update and you might receive calls during that period. If you happen to answer one of those unwanted calls, ask to be put on their business DNC list and that company must comply. How the House Tax Bill Would Impact Wind, Solar, Electric Vehicles and Utilities
Long term planning is what all businesses and countries seek right?
The U.S. passed laws to encourage the investment in renewable energy technology and innovation. Since then, companies, states and municipalities have invested $BILLIONs to achieve commercially available energy products, sustainable energy and reduced pollution/greenhouse gases. Renewable energy has been a top job producer.
The House Republicans and Senate have unveiled tax reform bills that would undermine this planning and progress. Proposed reforms would include:
- Curtail wind construction
- Stop long term investment in solar development
- Stop investment in electric vehicles
These 3 items represent the majority of jobs created in the electric energy industry over the last 8 years.
One addition was incentive for small wind turbines, fuel cells and geothermal. This is a good plan as none of these technologies are currently commercially viable. That will take a long-term plan. While the Republican tax reform gets finalized, look at what is done to the engines of job growth in the energy industry and for those that carry out long term planning.

ComEd community solar tariff approved by Illinois regulator
The ICC approved ComEd’s solar tariff application. A solar customer can subscribe to a minimum and a maximum of the output of a single community solar installation. Various concerns were discussed about the pricing and exclusion of transmission charges. However, the ICC sided with ComEd. There is a possibility for adjustments but it is uncertain how intervenors will move forward. The tariff is another step in furthering the efforts of the Future Energy Jobs Act.

What blackout? How solar-reliant power grids passed the eclipse test
In areas where solar energy contributes a large percentage of electricity, it is expected that certain weather patterns or natural phenomena’s such as a solar eclipse will affect the power grid. With Monday’s total solar eclipse in the US, system operators furthered their understanding of production interruptions. Despite the decline in output, it did not cause a major disruption to the network. Luckily, other power plants such as gas-fired and hydro overcompensated for the loss. We have more work to do with creating resilient networks that operate seamlessly but, being able to avoid a blackout is a step in the right direction.
