PriceWatch™ and Natural Gas Storage Season

It is that time of the year when Realgy Energy Services starts to send out our PriceWatch™ emails; look for it in your email anytime from October to November. Supplies of natural gas in storage begin to be applied to your monthly natural gas usage starting November 1st.

PriceWatch™ monitors the natural gas market to pin-point the most advantageous time for our natural gas customers to lock in a rate for the winter heating months.

Realgy will only send out a PriceWatch™ email if we can lock our customers in at a rate that will save them money. If you would like more information on PriceWatch™, please visit our blog post What is PriceWatch™?

Natural Gas Storage is the service of purchasing a percentage of your annual gas usage during the summer months and storing it. This stored gas is then delivered to you during the winter months. That is why we call it “winter gas at summer prices.”

Realgy offers this storage program whenever we can. If your utility allows Realgy to offer a storage program, it will be listed in our Service Plan table on our website realgyenergyservices.com.

For more information on the Natural Gas Storage program please visit our blog posts: Natural Gas Storage Season is Here and So What Exactly is Natural Gas Storage

What is budget billing?

Many utility companies offer a budget billing plan to their customers. This basically means that you will end up paying a set amount each month for your utility bill. Your utility company will generally take an average of your past energy usage and estimate future gas or electric costs to come up with your monthly set amount. While this may seem like a great idea, you should carefully consider several things before enrolling.

First you should find out if a refund or credit will be issued if less energy is used. Some utility companies may not issue a refund if less power is used than planned. Additionally you may need to set aside extra money to cover the cost after the settle-up if more energy was used than the utility planned for.

Second you should also look at administration fees associated with the service. Many will charge a monthly fee. The fees will vary from utility to utility, but anything more than two or three dollars a month is too much for this service.

Third you should consider the contract that you sign when enrolling for the budget plan offered by your utility. There may be penalties applied if you move or turn off the service. For example you may end up paying extra when you move if you have used more power than was budgeted.

Fourth if you are enrolled with a Registered Energy Supplier such as Realgy Energy Services, it is important to find out if all charges will be covered under the budgeted amount. Some utilities will not allow for budgeting if the customer is enrolled with a supplier.

It is important that you fully understand what you are signing up for, check out your local utilities website before signing up for a budget plan or request to see a copy of the contract.

However, the easiest way to reduce your monthly utility bill would be to enroll with a Registered Energy Supplier to lower your energy rates, check out Realgy Energy Services rates for June 2012 and see how much you could be saving www.realgyenergyservices.com.

ComEd Outage Alert Map and Mobile App

ComEd has announced two new ways it is utilizing technology to improve communication with their customers. The first is an interactive online outage map and the second is a mobile application for smartphones.

“These new features are just two of many improvements ComEd has made in recent months as part of our focus on delivering greater value to our customers through enhanced customer service,” said Terence R. Donnelly, executive vice president and chief operations officer of ComEd.

ComEd’s interactive outage map allows customers to report and view current outages. The color-coded triangle icons illustrate how many customers are affected by each incident, as well as pinpointing the outage location.

Zooming in on a specific area gives more details such as Customers Affected, Estimated Restoration and Crew Status. The map is updated every half hour, and a mobile version is in the works as well.

When you zoom in on the ComEd Outage map more details are shown

The interactive outage map can be found on the ComEd website www.comed.com under the Customer Service tab, along with other useful outage information or by clicking here www.comed.com/map.

The new ComEd Mobile App like the outage map will allow customers to report power outages and check restoration status. ComEd residential customers will also be able to use the app to view account information such as:

  • Account balance
  • Account history
  • Manage payments, including budget billing, automatic and one-time payments
  • Report meter readings

The ComEd mobile app is free and available for download on iPhone and Android devices on the ComEd website www.comed.com/app or by searching for “COMED” in the application store on your smartphone.

Have you tried the ComEd Outage Map or Mobile App let us know what you think?

Deregulation and how it can help you save money with Realgy Energy Services

Deregulation is the separation of purchasing energy, and the distribution of the energy. While your utility will continue to deliver your energy, deregulation offers the opportunity for third party suppliers such as Realgy Energy Services to supply you with the same energy at a lower rate.

Lawmakers are carefully protecting consumers, as the energy industry implements the restructuring of itself from a regulated monopoly to a competitive service. Strict requirements and rules have been imposed on all new energy suppliers.

At Realgy Energy Services, we take consumer protection very seriously and provide you with protection beyond what the law requires at every step of the way.

Realgy Energy Services, like other companies selling to industrial, commercial and business customers, must:

· Register with the Public Utilities Commission or local utility

· Be approved by the Public Utilities Commission or local utility

· Provide financial guarantees to the public Utilities Commission or local utility

· Demonstrate customer service

You have the right to file a complaint against your supplier with the Public Utilities Commission or local utility. Any company violating the rules will have its registration revoked and will no longer be allowed to sell.

How does deregulation help you save money?

Deregulation of natural gas and electricity puts the power in your hands as a consumer; it gives you the choice to decide whether you purchase your energy from your utility or from a third party supplier like Realgy Energy Services.

In addition to saving you money on your energy usage throughout the year, Realgy Energy Services also offers to all of our customers:

What is PriceWatch™?

Realgy Energy Services offers our PriceWatch™ winter fixed-price program to all of our Natural Gas customers who have a valid email address on file.

PriceWatch™ utilizes Realgy Energy Services’ proprietary trading and computer services. PriceWatchTM is designed to send out alerts when fixed pricing is such that it can reduce costs over the winter months.

It’s that time of year again when Realgy’s staff of Energy Advisers start to look into the future to see whether locking in your natural gas at a certain price for the winter months will save you money.

Our Energy Advisers start monitoring the market prices of natural gas in early August and continue to monitor prices through September and October. Historically, natural gas prices are lower in September and October before rising again in the winter months due to rising demand.

Realgy’s staff of Energy Advisers monitor future prices every day to recommend the best time to lock in a price so our customers save the most money on their natural gas usage this winter season.

PriceWatch™ is time-sensitive and requires all customers who want to participate to have a valid email address on file with Realgy Energy Services.

Our Energy Advisers need a response within 48 hours in order to lock in the best price.

PriceWatch™ Benefits

  • We monitor the market and recommend pricing
  • We charge no additional fee
  • You choose to participate
