Hemenway United Methodist Church completes installation of its solar power project.
Hemenway United Methodist Church is now powered by 15.4 kW of solar energy.
Realgy, LLC today announced the completion of a 15.4 kilowatt (kW) solar photovoltaic (PV) system for Hemenway UMC, an active parish serving the Evanston community and beyond for 143 years.
The solar PV system was installed on the roof of the main church building located in Evanston, Illinois. Pastor Mosley stated: “We share our building with several non-profits who provide vital services to the community. The solar panels provide energy to reduce our energy costs so that we can redirect resources to life saving endeavors. It’s really exciting to see the roof area with the panels installed, as it builds on our commitment to sustainability.”
The solar PV system was installed by Eco Solar Solutions of Chicago, Illinois. This is a smaller project than ECO Solar normally installs but it will make a big impact for the church. “Hemenway’s church building is a flat roof and southern exposure which was a great building to install the solar PV system,” said Paul Szczesny, President of Eco Solar Solutions. “Adding solar to the church so that it will now be able to generate most of its ongoing energy needs for the next 25 years is very exciting and a great investment.”
Realgy, LLC is an alternative energy service supplier in Illinois and is the owner of 5 solar PV systems, including our newest at Hemenway UMC. Realgy supplies Hemenway their electricity and selected them for this installation. Realgy paid for the installation so as to generate renewable energy locally as part of its sustainable commitment in Illinois.
The Hemenway PV Solar system will produce over 18, 250 kilowatt hours (kWh) of energy annually and more than one million kWh over the next 25 years. That is enough energy to power about 2 average Illinois homes every year. The environmental benefits associated with the PV system is the reduction of 50 pickup trucks of coal or 12,775 lbs. of carbon dioxide each year for the next 25 years of operation!
“We are excited to announce the completion of the Hemenway solar PV project,” said Michael Vrtis, President of Realgy, LLC. “Realgy made this investment as a continuation of our commitment to Illinois, and especially Evanston.” It is Realgy’s second project in Evanston. Vrtis continues; “The Hemenway PV project builds on our commitment of reducing the cost and proving the environmental benefits of renewable energy to our customers in Illinois.”
Realgy entered into a long term agreement with Hemenway UMC under which Hemenway pays nothing for the Solar PV plant’s installation and maintenance. Hemenway simply remains a customer of Realgy and pays only the market based cost of power it uses (averaging 5% below COMED). In addition, the church will receive a discount of about 10% as a result of having the solar energy displace energy that would otherwise be delivered (and charged) by COMED.

DOE EIA Weekly Gas Storage Report
Working gas in storage was 3,193 Bcf as of Friday, August 28, 2015, according to EIA estimates. This represents a net increase of 94 Bcf from the previous week. Stocks were 495 Bcf higher than last year at this time and 122 Bcf above the 5-year average of 3,071 Bcf
EIA to estimate 83-87 Bcf
Actual 94 Bcf
An injection within that range would be more than the 79-Bcf build reported in the comparable week of 2014 and the 60-Bcf five year-average increase, EIA data showed. Discussing the possible effect of a high injection number Thursday, Santiago Diaz, broker at INTL FC Stone, said “if the large injection trend continues, it will translate towards more downward pressure on prices.” It is not unusual for natural gas storage injections to reach this size, but what is unusual is how early large injections are arriving. “With the third week of September traditionally marking the low point in the season for weather-related demand, this pattern change appears to be running close to schedule”

Realgy joins GE, Travelers and Aetna in opposing Connecticut’s unitary tax
Realgy operates as an energy services company which sells natural gas, electricity and related services in the States’ of Illinois, Indiana and Michigan.
Most of our employees are located in Connecticut, in which we earn NO revenue.
Below is a table that shows a simplified representation of where we earn revenue and where we pay tax in the state where we earn it.
Connecticut taxes are based on a ratio of revenue (in states where we do not pay state tax), payroll and property taxes. The other states are purely revenue based tax.
So as depicted above we do not pay Connecticut any state sales taxes when we earn and pay taxes for that revenue in other states.
However, we are currently before the state of Connecticut tax commission which wants to recognize the income in other states as being earned and taxable in Connecticut.
This would results in Realgy PAYING TAX in the state where we earn and currently pay tax and IN CONNECTICUT where we do not earn any revenue.
Realgy does pay tax in Connecticut for our employees and for revenue earned in states where we do not pay taxes.
If Connecticut tax commission is successful in their audit it will result in a charge to Realgy of some $20,000 in additional taxes owed (for this year and each year hereafter). Again, we have already paid taxes on this income in other states.
The issue of unitary tax being commented on by the large companies is exactly what we are facing before the CT tax commission. The CT legislature is going after the big companies that have split up the companies legally to avoid the double taxation by CT.
If CT is going to tax ALL of a company’s revenue, in addition to paying local property and payroll taxes, keeping multinationals or small companies (like Realgy) that work in other states headquartered in CT will be a very difficult proposition.
City of Warsaw
WARSAW, Indiana (April 17, 2015) The City of Warsaw Board of Public Works and Safety (Warsaw) has issued a request-for-proposal for natural gas to service its 21 meter locations. Realgy Energy Service, a wholesaler or third party supplier in the NIPSCO Choice program, responded with a proposal that showed savings compared to the current supplier which showed an estimated savings $10,000 to 15,000 for the last year.
“We are thrilled to be able to offer Warsaw a true savings program.” said Michael Vrtis, President of Realgy Energy Services. “We submitted our analysis and agreement that substantiated the estimated annual savings Warsaw can expect to receive from purchasing their natural gas directly from a supplier without any NIPSCO Gas markup, which will provide significant cost reductions.”
The NIPSCO Choice program was initiated by NIPSCO as an opportunity for customers to purchase their natural gas supply directly. NIPSCO is currently the only utility in Indiana offering customer choice to all levels of customers; from residential to industrial.
Warsaw Clerk-Treasurer Lynn Christiansen was given the approval, with a stipulation, to drop the city’s current natural gas supplier, IGS Energy, formerly Border Energy, and sign a two-year contract with Realgy Energy. A study showed Warsaw has been paying IGS more than what NIPSCO would charge and a switch would save Warsaw an estimated$10,000 to $15,000 a year on gas costs. There is no cost to sign the contract with Realgy.
Lew Roberts of Go West, Realgy’s representative, recognizes the challenges faced by cities and municipalities in Indiana. We approached Warsaw with a Managed Price program. Mr. Roberts explained; “having over ten (10) years of service in the NIPSCO Choice program we were able to show consistent performance and real savings compared to NIPSCO and even more compared to IGS Energy.” Mr. Roberts continued; “Working with Warsaw Mayor Joe Thallemer and the board members, together they quickly understood they were overpaying with their current energy marketer and appreciated the new approach.”

Local business wins; the Office of Governmental Accountability wins appeal against Department of Labor
18 JUNE 2014 | By: Realgy, LLC
One year ago in May 2013, the Office of Governmental Accountability (OGA) issued their finding which required the Connecticut Department of Labor (DOL) to provide certain documents related to their ongoing investigation as requested by Realgy. The DOL appealed that decision and the appellate court upheld OGA’s decision. The result; DOL cannot claim an exemption to releasing the information.
Realgy, LLC, a West Hartford business for 13 years, filed a Freedom of Information Request (FOIA), which is handled under the Office of Governmental Accountability in Connecticut. Michael Vrtis, President of Realgy explained “We filed a freedom of information request to hold DOL to the same standard as they have held us and seek to have information released that will show what we believe to be an abuse of power by DOL during this investigation.”
DOL filed their appeal against releasing this information as it would harm their ability to investigate Realgy stating “…that every investigation initiated is criminal in nature.” In addition, DOL cited that Realgy’s “…request for documents merely is an effort to hinder the DOL’s pending investigation and to harass the wage agent assigned to the investigation.”
However, the appellate court upheld the OGA’s finding that found that DOL had spent 4 years on the investigation, had not communicated with Realgy in over a year, and that DOL failed to prove that there is any consideration of legal action against Realgy.
Vrtis stated, “We feel grateful to OGA for wading through DOL’s defense and appeal of this investigation.” Vrtis continued, “with this appeal resolved, the original OGA’s finding are upheld and DOL will be held to the same standard as every business in Connecticut. I look forward to receiving the information and making it public.”
Realgy was only a 3rd party to this appeal as it was DOL who appealed OGA’s ruling. In essence;
The FOIC (Freedom of Information Commission) initially ruled Realgy and the public did have that right and DOL should turn over the documents. DOL sued the FOIC ruling they didn’t. The Superior Court decided they did.
This decision is important as it means the DOL has to be held accountable as is every business in Connecticut and turn over the documents they collect in the course of their business. They cannot claim that an open investigation gives them protection against such requests. DOL has no time constraints on an investigation, therefore, and has been able to shield collected information for years.
Vrtis explained “the FOIA request has been the only means available to Realgy to have DOL be held accountable for the ongoing investigation.” All FOIA requests involve a company requesting information from a governmental agency. The Office of Government Accountability houses the FOIC; additional information is at http://www.ct.gov/foi. The FOIA process required Realgy to request specific information from DOL through the FOIC. The FOIC rules on Realgy’s request for information and the resulting decision requires DOL to release the requested information.
“For over four years the DOL has investigated Realgy for violations of labor laws which can be a criminal matter. Four years for investigating one complaint from one employee who was only with Realgy for one year. Such an open investigation can be intimidating and as such, no other governmental or politician will address it until the conclusion of the investigation,” stated Vrtis.
Vrtis continued, “The Office of Government Accountability and, in particular, the Freedom of Information Commission are valuable entities. Without having to hire an attorney, Realgy can be heard by an impartial panel that has the power to order DOL to produce the records and be held accountable for their investigation. I am impressed by the hard work of this impartial panel to balance the power of governmental agencies against the need for business to protect themselves from abuse of that power.”

Realgy Energy Services has installed Two New Solar PV systems in Illinois
At the beginning of December 2013, Realgy announced the start of construction on two of its newest solar power projects in the state of Illinois. Once completed, the two new systems in total will produce over 90,000 kilowatt hours (kWh) of energy annually and offset almost 2 million pounds of carbon dioxide during the initial 25 years of operation.
The first Solar Photovoltaic (PV) system has been installed on the roof of the Lake County Fairgrounds in Grayslake, home to the historic Lake County Fair and other year-round events. The second Solar PV system was installed at Seven Oaks Farm, a historic dairy and horse farm in Saint Charles.
Both PV Systems have been installed by Renewable Energy Alternatives of Arlington Heights. “We are excited to be a part of this venture,” said Kacie Peters, Director of Sales and Marketing at Renewable Energy Alternatives. “The array is in a very public space and will be seen by thousands annually. We hope that this array will inspire others to know solar is possible—and practical in Illinois.”
“Realgy made this investment as a part of our sustainable energy commitment with the support of Illinois Department of Commerce Renewable Energy Program and the Illinois Solar Energy Association.” Michael Vrtis, President of Realgy. All of the energy produced by the panels will be used by the companies, and will reduce their reliance on fossil-generated energy produced primarily from coal in Illinois.

Realgy Proposes $2.6 Million in Savings for Indianapolis Public Schools
PRESS RELEASE October 16, 2013 | By: Realgy, LLC
INDIANAPOLIS, Indiana, October 16, 2013 – Indianapolis Public Schools (IPS) has issued a request for proposals for natural gas to serve its 90 schools. Realgy Energy Service, a wholesaler or third party supplier in the Citizens Gas Energy Select program responded with a proposal that would have saved the school district over $2,588,000 for the last 3 years.
“We are thrilled to be able to offer IPS nearly 3 million dollars in savings,” said Michael Vrtis, President of Realgy Energy Service. “We submitted our proposal and even if we are not selected, the savings IPS can expect to receive from purchasing their natural gas directly from a supplier, without any Citizens Gas markup, will provide significant cost reductions.”
The Energy Select program was initiated by Citizens Gas to “reduce the energy cost of Citizens Gas customers.” This was in keeping with their charter which states; “We maintain the lowest possible rates with sound financial management.”
The Citizens Gas Energy Choice program is not well known but it provides all municipal, commercial, and industrial customers a choice between purchasing their natural gas from Citizens Gas or directly from a registered third party supplier of natural gas such as Realgy Energy Services.
In April 2009, Realgy Energy Services received approval as a third party supplier in Citizens Gas. Unlike other suppliers, Realgy Energy Services extends customer choice to commercial and small businesses.
“The benefits from receiving your gas service with Realgy Energy Services as your wholesale supplier instead of Citizens Gas has been demonstrated every month over the last 3 years,” said Michael Vrtis, President of Realgy Energy Services. “From November 2010 through to October 2013, Realgy Energy Services has delivered nearly 16.79% savings compared to purchasing from Citizens Gas. For the average commercial customer that is an annual savings of $7,120.86.”
The bidding for natural gas service was opened October 16, 2013 with service expected to begin January 1, 2014. Additional information on the bid and the bid results can be obtained by contacting the IPS Purchasing Agent at 120 E. Walnut Street, Rm. 117 Indianapolis, Indiana 46204.
